Apparel Designer/Product Development – Knits, Sweaters, Accessories

As a key member of the Tilley design team, you’ll lead the end-to-end design and development process within your product category—bringing seasonal concepts to life with a sharp eye for detail, technical functionality, and timeless design. From early concept through final production, you'll work to deliver innovative and durable apparel for travel, leisure, and adventure.
Responsibilities:
· Design Execution: Create innovative, on-brand apparel designs aligned with seasonal direction, category strategy, and Tilley's design ethos.
· Product Development Leadership: Drive the full product lifecycle—owning the journey from initial sketch to production-ready style—ensuring each piece meets functional, aesthetic, and commercial goals.
· Sample Development: Partner with sourcing to select the right vendors for prototyping, optimizing for fit, quality, and costing aligned with target retails.
· Fit & Construction Oversight: Lead fittings and assess garment performance, collaborating closely with technical design and Design Director to refine fit, fabric, and trim details.
· Materials & BOMs: Build and maintain accurate Bills of Materials; select and validate performance fabrics, trims, and sustainable options that align with each product's intended use.
· Line Management: Maintain up-to-date line sheets and WIP tracker, ensuring clarity and momentum across all style developments.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the design point person for your category within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team—contributing to strategy, sharing best practices, and helping evolve processes across the design and merchandising pipeline.
What You Bring to the Table:
· Strong foundation in technical apparel design, with working knowledge of garment construction, fit, and performance textiles.
· Excellent sketching, CAD, and communication skills to convey ideas clearly and convincingly.
· A passion for function-first fashion and a drive to innovate for modern explorers.
· Proven ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and priorities through a product development lens.
Academic/Educational Requirements
Undergraduate degree/diploma in Apparel design/production
Required Skills & Experience
· 5-8 years of industry experience in menswear/womenswear apparel and/or accessories.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Keen attention to detail, full knowledge of apparel technical construction and design.
· Highly organized and calm; ability to problem solve and/or escalate timely decision making.
· Approaches problem solving with conceptual and strategic thinking.
· Positive track record working cross-functionally with both internal and external partners.
· Expert in building BOMs, production-friendly construction details, & technical package creation.
· Strong technical knowledge of accessories products, construction, & machinery knowledge for product manufacturing.
· Team player, knowledge of cross-functional team accountabilities and requirements preferred, including design, materials, sourcing, merchandising, and quality assurance.
· Knowledge of product calendar timeline and ability to work against deadlines
· Travelled to and worked on site with manufacturers across Asia, the Americas, and Europe, an asset
· Adobe Illustrator, Excel, Photoshop and Office Outlook required.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
